Over the next 12 months I will be raising funding from foundations and individual donors to support the creation of a new body of work. This work will be part of an exhibit and free public lecture for artists and art lovers.
This project entitled “S.C. Versillee: New Works” is a sponsored by Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Contributions in behalf of “S.C. Versillee: New Works” may be made payable to Fractured Atlas and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
Project Description:
Time to create is critical to an artist’s continued development and the advancement of their career. The intent of this project is to provide the artist with an opportunity to focus on the creation of a cohesive body of new work and to strengthen her creative output through the exploration of specific painting goals. The result of this project will be a solo exhibition and accompanying free public lecture about the work and the process of grant seeking for artists.
Sequoia C. Versillee works in both traditional and digital mediums exploring subject matter that includes figurative paintings and portraiture that range from literal to metaphorical in nature. During the course of this project, the artist intends to expand her exploration of digital and traditional mixed media paintings. The intended audience for the completed paintings will be proprietors of exhibition space, artists, art students, and the general art appreciating public who have an interest in figurative painting, representational artwork and/or work by female or African American artists.
Visitors to my site will be able to track the progress of the project via www.scversillee.com/newworks (link will be functional by mid August 2008). The resulting work is scheduled to go on exhibit in the Spring or Summer of 2010.
